Abstract

Molecular markers associated with bulb characters of garlic were searched using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) in garlic (Allium sativum L.). Eighty four accessions were subjected to RAPD analysis using 18 oligonucleotide primers. Clove adherent type was divided into four types. The majority was A type collected from East-Asia, B and C type were collected from Europe, D type was collected from Nepal. Four RAPD markers, WF70_(1.400), WG85_(980), WF64_(1.050), and WF70_(1.700) were amplified accessions with A, B, C, and D type of clove adherent, respectively. High correlation was shown between bolting and clove adherent type. The C and D type as clove adherent type was shown non-bolting, but A or B type showed bolting. Additional RAPD marker, WE82_(1.220) was amplified from accessions with white bulb color.
